In a typical retail audit, the MSP sends shoppers into the store to find out something about a brand's presence in the store.  There are many variations, but in general, either you have a list of items that should be in the store (and that you want the shopper to look for), or you don't know what's in the store, and you want the shopper to find out.

In Presto a retail audit is set up as a survey with many linked survey questions, all pointing to the same survey that asks for information about an individual item (for example, picture, shelf count, price, etc.).

Presto has added new features to support both kinds of retail audits, by associating each linked survey question with a target representing the item that the shopper found in the store.  When adding a linked survey question, you now have four options for how this target is set:

1.   Use the same target as the top-level survey (the parent). This is the default behavior for linked survey questions. When this is selected, the child evaluation has the location of the shop as its target. Exactly what you want for most shops, but not for retail audits.

2.   Use a specific target for the linked survey. When you select this option, you also select one specific target to be the target of the evaluation that is created when the shopper clicks this linked survey question. This is a static setting that doesn't change unless you edit the survey and select a different target for this question: for example, one linked survey question's target is Polar Premium club soda. This option can be used when you have a list of items that you expect the shopper to find in the store.

3.   Let the shopper select the target from a specific target group. When you select this option, you also select the target group that the shopper can select from. When the shopper clicks on the linked survey question, they are prompted to select a target from that group using a drop-down menu where they can type to search. This option works well when you don't know exactly what is in the store, and you want the shopper to find out by selecting from a list of possible items.

4.   Auto select the target from a specific target group. When you select this option, you select a target group that is used to automatically assign targets to linked survey questions. When the shopper opens a survey, each linked survey question is assigned a target from the target group, in alphabetical order by target name. This option, like the second option, can be used when you have a list of items that you expect the shopper to find, but instead of configuring each question with a specific target, you create one linked survey question that specifies the target group, and copy it as many times as needed. The targets are assigned to the linked survey questions based on the targets that are in the group at the time the shopper opens the shop form.
